Sixth form colleges

Age 16 18 048A sixth form college is for young people between the ages of 16 and 19

Young people can attend sixth form college after they have completed year 11 at school

At some sixth form colleges students only study A levels, others offer a mix of qualifications, such as A levels, BTECs and GCSEs, and applied A levels. There is one sixth form college in Calderdale and two in Kirklees.

For:

  • A levels and BTEC level 3, students usually need a range of GCSEs at grade 9 to 4 to get a place
  • Level 2 courses, such as GCSEs and BTECs, usually require a range of GCSEs at 9-3
  • Level 1 courses a range of GCSEs at 2-1 are required. Check the courses offered and entry requirements with individual colleges.
