Parents, friends, teachers can offer advice and ideas but do some research yourself. Every year we produce a list of School and college open events and application closing dates 2020/21 aimed at Year 11 but some Year 10 students go along too
Use JED to explore jobs and careers and visit your school or college careers resource area. If you're going on work experience, choose your placement carefully.
Remember a part-time job or voluntary work in Calderdale or Kirklees is useful experience too.

Get Ahead 2021 - post 16 options at entry level and level 1
Raising the Participation Age means you must now stay in training or learning until you are 18. This means you can choose:
- full-time learning in a school sixth form, sixth form college, further education college or with a training provider
- an apprenticeship, traineeship, supported internship or training
- full-time work or volunteering for 20 hours or more AND part-time accredited study.
